Lillian, mother of two and who lives in London, and I have been friends for years. She has worked for, among other designers, Ralph Lauren, Tuleh, Michael Kors and most recently has been consulting at Asprey. She is incredibly chic, and an original. Not overly trendy, but daring, and just always innately stylish and clever in everything she does. For instance, the cake for her wedding in 1998? A tower of exquisitely frosted cupcakes.

KOTUR: What’s in your makeup bag?
LILLIAN: Lots of Bobbi Brown and Estee Lauder products, a clear lipstick and an eyelash curler.

KOTUR: Do you have a beauty secret?
LILLIAN: I don’t use creams, I only use oils on my face and body.

KOTUR: Do you have a favorite purse or bag?
LILLIAN: Certainly any of the Kotur minaudieres in black, silver and gold.

KOTUR: How would your female friends describe your style?
LILLIAN: Edited, classic and a little fashion-y.

KOTUR: What is the most treasured item in your wardrobe?
LILLIAN: A one-of-a-kind dress Michael Kors made for me when I was 25 using all these wood beads. It is the perfect, little shift dress.

KOTUR: Is there anything in your wardrobe you should get rid of but can’t?
LILLIAN: Tons of things. I’ve worked for all these designers and have these special pieces. What if they have a retrospective someday and need them back?

KOTUR: You’re the fashion police for the day, what do you ban?
LILLIAN: Color. I don’t like to see color anymore. Do I sound horrible? I just like seeing black, white, and all the shades in between.

KOTUR: How high is too high a heel?
LILLIAN: No high heel is too high.

KOTUR: Are you ever too old for jeans?
LILLIAN: Never.

KOTUR: If you could live in any period of time for its fashion, what would it be?
LILLIAN: The late Fifties and early Sixties.

KOTUR: What is your most recent purchase?
LILLIAN: Some fun, almost Mexican-style beach cover-ups I found in Mustique.

KOTUR: What quality do you most admire in a person?
LILLIAN: Patience.

KOTUR: Can you judge a book by its cover?
LILLIAN: Yes. I do.

KOTUR: What is your greatest extravagance?
LILLIAN: Clothes.

KOTUR: What is your guilty pleasure?
LILLIAN: Clothes.

KOTUR: What are your bad habits?
LILLIAN: Clothes!

KOTUR: Do you have a cheap thrill?
LILLIAN: I wish I did.

KOTUR: Your favorite smell?
LILLIAN: Grapefruit.

KOTUR: What are you most proud of?
LILLIAN: My family.

KOTUR: What are you least proud of?
LILLIAN: My memory.

KOTUR: What is pure bliss?
LILLIAN: Walking through old marketplaces.

KOTUR: All your friends know you eat like a boy. What would you like for your last supper?
LILLIAN: A Peter Luger steak.

KOTUR: Yes or no to a nip and a tuck?
LILLIAN: Of course—yes.

KOTUR: What would you like to achieve before you die?
LILLIAN: Happiness.

KOTUR: How would you like to be remembered?
LILLIAN: As chic.
