30 MARCH 2013 | STYLE

Springtime leather – not two words one normally associates, but a key trend for Spring Summer 2013 nonetheless. And, if spank me style outfits, strict leather pencil skirts and tight leather pants might be the last thing on some people’s minds when it comes to choosing some easy, seasonal updates, there are actually some sunny surprises currently up designers sleeves. Whilst leather may have played a key part on Spring 2013 runways, it came in relaxed shapes, cool colours and sophisticated silhouettes that take it all out of the tacky and into the really rather chic. Here are three ways we’ll be working the look. Click through our gallery for images.

1. Punchy and Pretty: As shown at Tibi, a touch of brightly coloured leather in a feminine shape brings this wintry fabric straight into spring. Pair a bright coloured leather skirt with a simple, structured top and clean accessories for a look that’s punchy with a touch of the pretty. 2. Daytime Chic: Taking your cue from DKNY, an pencil skirt in white leather is the perfect easy item for day. Wear with a simple blouse – denim for casual, silk for something more snazzy – and finish off with a pair of pretty pumps. 3. Supersleek Shift: If leather dresses sounds a tiny bit scary, take your lead from Loewe and yours textured, in a relaxed shape and in simple block colour for the sophisticated way to do the top to toe look. DKNY’s perforated white leather and leather and jersey panelled numbers nod to the look without seeming too risque, or check out Jonathan Simkhai’s for a sleek number to take you from day to night. Pair with fun accessories and a bright cardigan for day and you have a totally doable way to wear springtime leather.  Images: Catwalk: Loewe SS13, white perforated and black leather and jersey dresses by DKNY, sandals by Alexadre Birman, Dolce and Gabanna earrings and Jonathan Simkhai dress all from www.matchesfashion.com, cardigan by Paul and Joe from www.net-a-porter.com and bag, Morley in raffia by Kotur here.
